Where Did You Go? by Akajork Where Did You Go? by Akajork
Where Did You Go?,

I was already gone, cold in the ground, asleep.

Today I touched rays of light.
I could feel you through the fabric of my clothes.

Never have I felt more alive,
I feel like being awake at the dawn of sunlight.

You are back now,
God I missed you.

-------------------------------------------------

In a near future, humanity finds itself covered in darkness. Pollution in the atmosphere caused a thick layer of smoke and dirt around our planet. On many places on earth sunlight is unable to reach the earths surface, causing a constant darkness for the population. Months without sunlight passed and people in big cities started to get depressed and society came to a hold. Now, after all hope is gone and plants and trees are almost all vanished, humanity tries one last effort to save their society, building gigantic artificial sunlight's to bring light once more to the big cities. In this scene, we witness one of those cities being supplied with their first artificial suns, creating light in the streets for the very first time in almost a year. People gather on the streets and gaze out to the bright light in the sky, although it is not a real sun, it almost feels like one, the warmth of the rays falling on their faces.
Little do they know that these suns won't fix anything, and that the governments already realized it is far too late to save the planet. So for now, the only thing they could do is to bring light into peoples lives once more. Even if it is false hope, it is better then none at all.

This is like every winter where I live. :P 4 months of impenetrable darkness that you don't even need a dystopian scenario to experience. It does depress people badly.

Hmm the Matrix wasnt an inspiration for this. I got my inspiration for this mainly from music and visiting New York.

Awsome concept, the artificial Sun looks just right in this piece, its not to overwhelming with light, so that you cant really see whats happening, this piece looks great.

This one really feels reasonable.
I can't even say it's wonderful because it's above wonderful.
Also the light here really gives some sense of artificial warmth like from a radiator.
Awesome job. I may come to finally like sci-fi.

This is amazing. The painting itself is outstanding, and the people look like they came from actual photographs.

The way you painted it, reminds me of both Cloverfield and War of the Worlds, both of which had a scene very similar to the one depicted here.

Also, a great and original concept. Keep it up. ;)
