Luminarium V3 + GENESIS RELEASED!!!!

Journal Entry: Sun Sep 20, 2009, 3:48 PM

Finally! It is here. After months of hard work I am proud to say that we can release all our new content on the planned date! But, more importantly, I am proud at my team of artists and administrators for their amazing collaborative efforts to make all of this happen. Therefore I would like to thank our team of artists who have together worked hard to realize 'Genesis'. This exhibit became a new milestone for The Luminarium and this is how our artists approached it. Quality, that is what we focused on more then ever, and I think we succeeded!

For our Development team these past months were months of hard and long work hours. After months of brainstorming about the new interface, designing elements and going over concepts for new features, the hard work is finally over. With tons of ideas still stuck in our heads we will always be busy, improving the new V3 and expanding our ways of communication and interaction. I would personally like to thank John Keech, our webmaster, who has done an amazing job and made it possible for us to realize our ideas. A thanks also goes out to Alastair Temple, my co-founder, who has been with us since the beginning of the group and someone who I can't see The Luminarium without. Last but not least I thank Alex Fralin, also one of my co-founders but above all a core member of the group. It is easy to say that Alex played a huge part in making The Luminarium to what it is today. His design, his ideas and his dedication makes me realize how lucky we are to have him.

And now without further ado, Today The Luminarium gives you its 8th exhibit "Genesis" but more importantly to us, its best exhibit to date. In this release you will find breathtaking artwork that showcases its stunning submissions of our imagination of the "beginning of existence" in a collection of visual & musical work that continues to push the boundaries of our journey as a group of inspired and motivated artists. The art presented in this exhibit will showcase the theme 'Genesis' in a fresh and meaningful way to give you new insight on the possibilities and imaginations of modern day art.

Our latest exhibit features another great artist. While he is still brand new to the group, we still feel his dedication and hard work for this exhibit is a wonderful example of the pride we have in our artists. Chris Cold is our talented and newest artist to claim the featured artist title for "Genesis". Please take the time to get to congratulate this guy and take a look at his amazing work.

The Luminarium's V3

Journal Entry: Wed Sep 16, 2009, 3:05 AM

For a while now The Luminarium has been fairly quite towards it's public. Of course this was not without reason! Because The Luminarium has been working overtime behind the scenes on it's brand new V3! We are proud to present our gift to you guys, a brand new re-coded and designed platform with tons of new features and possibilities that will bring the team and it's community to new heights.
To get you guys all warmed up for this great update we prepared a little teaser with some more information about the release.

For this new version of The Luminarium we had tons of new ideas we wanted to accomplish and incorporate into our existing website. Our development team created a new Luminarium that is more dynamic, interactive and exciting and after a few months of hard work we can easily say that we have accomplished almost all of the ideas we had in mind and created a new Luminarium that we will only see grow and progress in the future. The reason for starting almost from scratch and trying to re-build our website is simple: we wanted to expand and our current database setup did not give us enough options to grow with us. Now we hope we can give the community and our artists more options and features to interact and communicate to make The Luminarium the most exciting art source on the web! In just a few days you can experience The Luminarium V3 yourself, so hang in there and prepare for a new Luminarium!

White Swan RELEASED + DD!

Journal Entry: Sun Jul 26, 2009, 11:36 AM

White Swan

White Swan earns a Daily Deviation today! Im really stoked that this project is getting some big attention and is gaining some recognition. It was an incredible amount of work that was done by the whole team so I'm happy people recognize it!

Check out the video on deviantArt and give the director's profile a watch!: silvanderwoerd.deviantart.com/…

----------------------------------------

Today the brand new video clip from director Sil van der Woerd was released to the public through his personal website and youtube! This means: upload time for me too! I will upload my dA gallery with some of the shots I worked on (I just uploaded one of the concept pieces I have done for the video) and show you some concept art aswell.

But first Enjoy!: -------> www.silvanderwoerd.com/whitesw… <---------- Tell me what you think!

So now that you've seen it, liked it?

I worked very intensly for several months with a very talented crew to realize the directors idea. It was my first real production experience and it was fun! My job was to handpaint all the cotton candy you see in the environment in the video, some set extensions and some larger matte paintings. My work was used in 18 final shots and to see it on screen finally makes me happy!

ps. There has been a big premiere party and event the 11th and Sil and some other people(including me)presented a little walkthrough of the project. Be sure to monitor CGChannel since it will be uploaded there! I'll post the link here to when it will be online!

White Swan

Journal Entry: Fri Jun 26, 2009, 10:55 PM

White Swan

Finally the teaser website is online (visit for the teaser: www.silvanderwoerd.com/white%2… ! For over half a year now I've been working on this video clip from director Sil van der Woerd and production is coming to an end. This week the teaser website went online and you can check out the teaser clip and some tasty stills from the project. I guarantee you, what you see on that website is just the tip of the iceberg. Defenately keep your eye on this project!
It will premiere the 11th and later that week I will upload my gallery with some stills of shots I worked on. It will be an exiting month with a Gnomon presentation and gallery opening for the project! If you live in LA defenately stop by!

I am responsible for almost all the matte painting in this video clip and I did a lot of concept work for it. It was a great experience and something I will not forget. After all, what's better then spending your time being creative and creating cool imagery. Not a whole lot.

------------------------------------

Secondly I just came back from New York! It was a great trip and I have seen so many new things! New York is a crazy place, people who live in Manhattan and read this: how do you do it! I would never be able to live in Manhattan, its just 24/7 circus! Great to visit and sightsee but a week was as long as I would like to be there haha!

Off to the Big Apple + Moon

Journal Entry: Sun Jun 21, 2009, 1:39 AM

Tomorrow I'll be off for a week to finally celebrate a little vacation time! It's been 3 months since I took a day off and without having weekends too I can really use this little holiday. The plan is to go to New York for a week and chill out and see the city.

So, I have never been there before, anyone has any good tips of stuff I CAN'T miss?! I would appreciate it since I've got no clue where to go in suchs a big town haha! I appreciate your help.

------------------------------------

Also I just came back from the movie Moon. I defenately recommend it as it was a great surprising film with a very good story. Although it was a low budget movie the effects were decent and fitted the mood quite perfectly. Great acting makes this a complete package. If you have the time and money go see it! You wont be dissapointed.

------------------------------------

Also on other great news; next week will probably bring some great info about a project I've been working on for the past 6 months. It regards the latest video clip from director Sil van der Woerd (www.silvanderwoerd.com) produced by Gnomon. I'll keep you guys posted for some great eyecandy and ofcourse monitor Gnomon's site and that from Sil.

Have a good one and don't forget; wake up and live like it will be your last!

Peace

Pixar's Up, It is great!

Journal Entry: Fri May 22, 2009, 12:27 PM

Wow!
Yesterday I went to a screening of Pixar's Up in the Disney Studio complex. The movie is AWESOME! In my opinion one of the best from Pixar! I loved the story, so much more to it then it seems at first sight, and the visuals are incredible. It's defenately worth seeing as it will surprise you! So as soon as you get the chance, go out and see it!
Also the new short in front of the movie, Partly Cloudy, is again Pixar style. Original, great visuals and lovely story. Pixar did it again and I am sure they will keep surprising us.

Lets have a good conversation UPDATE

Journal Entry: Mon Jan 19, 2009, 10:26 AM

UPDATE:
Since I have recently seen some amazing movies I had to update this journal. For people who haven't seen these films, go out and watch them, they are so worth your time if you enjoy a good movie!

- The Curious Case of Benjamin Button: suchs a cute and wonderful movie. Great cinematogrophy and a touching storyline. I really enjoyd this film and with it's 3 hours of length it wasn't even a minute too long. The full CG face in the first 1,5 hours of the movie is done amazingly well. It is very hard to spot that the full face is computer generated! A great picture with great acting.

- Slumdog Millionair: in my opinion the absolute winner of 2008. I have nothing but good to say about this picture. Almost every shot in this film is a piece of art, suchs an amazing color palette and beautiful compositions. The acting is unique and very touching and the storyline is just refreshing and simply amazing. And to complete this film the soundtrack is just fantastic! I haven't seen suchs an amazing film in a while. A simply must see.

Anyone else seen both these movies yet?

btw: new piece coming soon!

------------------------------------
I felt like making a journal about my passion and inspiration, film. It is not a journal in which I try to talk smart about film and movies in a way of how it inspires me. I just want to talk a bit about my favorite movies and I am interested in what yours are. Movies are a big part of my life and since I want to make movies my profession I like to talk about them. So lets talk some.

All these films are worth watching, they are all beautiful in their own way. These masterpieces are sure things that keep me going.
My list is in no particular order and it's just a list that popped up in my head right now of the movies I love although the first 3 are some of my all time favorites;

- Crash, www.imdb.com/title/tt0375679/
- Into the Wild, www.imdb.com/title/tt0758758/g…
- Atonement, www.imdb.com/title/tt0783233/
- 21 Grams, www.imdb.com/title/tt0315733/
- The Magdanele Sisters, www.imdb.com/title/tt0318411/
- The Usual Suspects, www.imdb.com/title/tt0114814/
- I Am Sam, www.imdb.com/title/tt0277027/
- Road to Perdition, www.imdb.com/title/tt0257044/
- Saving Private Ryan, www.imdb.com/title/tt0120815/

Update:

I just got my copy from Bold Visions in the mail. The painting bible from the one and only Gary Tonge. Now I recommend this book to anyone who loves painting or sci-fi/fantasy art. It really is a GREAT book! I loved every single page of it and its a very complete guide how to make a good piece. He not only explains how and why he did certain things, he shows how he made some of his greatest pieces he ever done! The book is very interesting for both beginning and advanced artists and I learned really a lot of it. Please buy this book you won't regret it at all:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would like to apologise for my absence on dA lately. I have had very little time to make something that I liked. But finally I finished a piece! Also with the new Luminarium artpack coming up I will be making more work! So I will finally be more active and that thought makes me happy, because I missed art! And thanks for making all the great stuff that has been updated lately! It brought me a lot of inspiration and I think there are some upcoming talents with BIG skills! Good to see this happening..
What lucky we are to live in these fortunate times.

O N E Y E A R O F A R T

Journal Entry: Mon Nov 26, 2007, 9:35 AM

Thanks a lot for all the great feedback I had on my latest piece Land Of Dogs! It was downloaded a lot and that means people actually have it on their desktops. I find that quite an honor. So if you haven't downloaded it yet, get to it!

LandOfDogs

---------------------------------------------

It's also almost my one year art anniversary! Next week, it's been one year since I made my very first piece. It cracked me up when I saw it a few days ago. Really, it's beyond ugly. I'm very proud at the progress I've made this past year and I can only say thank you to those who helped or inspired me along the way. A big thanks also goes out to deviantArt, it's been a huge inspiration. So now I present to you with pride: my very first piece made one year ago!:

Dust Doarway

---------------------------------------------

On further notice, I'm kinda stuck with my Project God. The paintings I wanted to do for the project aren't really making any progress. So I'm sketching some new ideas for paintings to put in the book. Anyone got any ideas? Oh and more help on the quotes is greatly appreciated! Read about the project in my previous journal entry.

Introduction

CSS JOURNAL

Welcome to my new Journal! I've finally got a subscription, so that means CSS journals, yeah. In the future I'll make a perfect one but for now this works fine right? Thanks to taenaron, gucken for some CSS help!

SCOLARSHIP

So I'm in my final year of school (Academy for Art Direction) and I will be a Junior Art Director at the beginning of next summer if everything is going to plan. After graduation I'm planning to move to San Fransisco to study at the Academy of Art University. But, things like that are very expensive. So I'm looking hard for a scolarship. Does anyone know a good program that I can try to qualify for?

PROJECT GOD

I'm working on this project for quite a while now.. but I'm getting there. When I started with the project my plan was to make a short demo reel out of it. But with time passing I realized that I could do something more personal and inspiring with this project. So I decided to change the whole concept: I'm now making a little 'book'. The paintings I'm doing will illustrate the feeling of the book. I finished the first painting and working on my second (you can see a sneek preview of that one in the banner of my journal!).

One of the paintings:
Project God by Akajork

So now comes the part that I need your help! Because there will be no story in the book.. but quotes and inspiring sentences that you can come up with or come accross! So I ask you guys now to help me out and gather as much of this inspiring stuff as you can! Just comment it on this journal or sent me a note. ps: if the quote is not your's please credit the name of who said it.

Some sentences that will be in the book as example:
Be nice to everyone you meet, it might be the person you're looking for.
Dreams that do come true can be as unsettling as those that don't.
Dreams are everywhere, we just need to notice them.

BURNING-LIQUID

Besides my work on Project God I'm doing a collaboration work with my friend Burning-Liquid. This project consists of a few animated matte paintings inserted in live footage. There still needs alot of work to be done so we'll keep you guys updated!

www.deviantart.com/deviation/5…;

It's awesome if people appreciate what your doing so I can just say: a big thanks to all of ya!
Secondly I got some cool news yesterday from the boys at Ray Gun Revival: raygunrevival.com/ a sci-fi space-opera orientated magazine. My latest piece will be the cover art for the new issue:D! Great to hear my art is good enough to be spread around the community like that.

I also updated my website with a new lay-out and latest projects and work. So go check it out and give me a comment if you like it:) : www.akajork.com

I even have more good news, I just bought 2 extra GB Ram:D! I now have 4 and wont have any memory issues any more! Yea thank freelance work for that!

I would like to thank the following persons for their help and suggestions:

Hi everyone!

So it's finally here: www.akajork.com online! I've worked pretty hard on it and I'm really please with the result. I had a lot of trouble with uploading it to the web so it took way longer than it supposed to be. Please take a look and tell me what you think about it! It's not finished yet so don't mind the little errors;). Please leave a comment in my yournal to tell me what you think:D!

I've got alot of homework and other stuff on my mind so I can't find any time to do some good art! But that will come.. I hope..

And thats not all.. cause I got tagged by :iconfunerium: and :iconmcchaz: . They both tagged me with different games so I just chose the easiest one:P

Here's the deal:
"The player of this "game" starts with the topic "6 weird habits/things about yourself" and people who get tagged need to write a journal about their 6 weird habits/things as well as stating the rules clearly. In the end, you need to choose the next 6 people to be tagged and list their names. Don't forget to leave a comment that says "you are tagged" in their devpage comments and tell them to read yours..."

so here we go:
1: I ride my bike over 10 hours a week to school and back, and I like it.
2: I can't live without music so I have my mp3 player on me always, even when I'm at home and listening to music out of my computer:P.
3: I eat a large bowl of yoghurt every night for like 10 years.
4: I do a creative study and I make art in my free time but still my dream lies with being a pilot someday... little contrast he:P?
5: I have so many visions and things I want to do in life, I have trouble focussing on just one.
6: I'm an idiot.

So that was pretty hard.. my sexy six people I tag:
