White Swan earns a Daily Deviation today! Im really stoked that this project is getting some big attention and is gaining some recognition. It was an incredible amount of work that was done by the whole team so I'm happy people recognize it!

Today the brand new video clip from director Sil van der Woerd was released to the public through his personal website and youtube! This means: upload time for me too! I will upload my dA gallery with some of the shots I worked on (I just uploaded one of the concept pieces I have done for the video) and show you some concept art aswell.

I worked very intensly for several months with a very talented crew to realize the directors idea. It was my first real production experience and it was fun! My job was to handpaint all the cotton candy you see in the environment in the video, some set extensions and some larger matte paintings. My work was used in 18 final shots and to see it on screen finally makes me happy!

ps. There has been a big premiere party and event the 11th and Sil and some other people(including me)presented a little walkthrough of the project. Be sure to monitor CGChannel since it will be uploaded there! I'll post the link here to when it will be online!

Finally the teaser website is online (visit for the teaser: [link] ! For over half a year now I've been working on this video clip from director Sil van der Woerd and production is coming to an end. This week the teaser website went online and you can check out the teaser clip and some tasty stills from the project. I guarantee you, what you see on that website is just the tip of the iceberg. Defenately keep your eye on this project!
It will premiere the 11th and later that week I will upload my gallery with some stills of shots I worked on. It will be an exiting month with a Gnomon presentation and gallery opening for the project! If you live in LA defenately stop by!

I am responsible for almost all the matte painting in this video clip and I did a lot of concept work for it. It was a great experience and something I will not forget. After all, what's better then spending your time being creative and creating cool imagery. Not a whole lot.

Secondly I just came back from New York! It was a great trip and I have seen so many new things! New York is a crazy place, people who live in Manhattan and read this: how do you do it! I would never be able to live in Manhattan, its just 24/7 circus! Great to visit and sightsee but a week was as long as I would like to be there haha!

Tomorrow I'll be off for a week to finally celebrate a little vacation time! It's been 3 months since I took a day off and without having weekends too I can really use this little holiday. The plan is to go to New York for a week and chill out and see the city.

So, I have never been there before, anyone has any good tips of stuff I CAN'T miss?! I would appreciate it since I've got no clue where to go in suchs a big town haha! I appreciate your help.

Also I just came back from the movie Moon. I defenately recommend it as it was a great surprising film with a very good story. Although it was a low budget movie the effects were decent and fitted the mood quite perfectly. Great acting makes this a complete package. If you have the time and money go see it! You wont be dissapointed.

Also on other great news; next week will probably bring some great info about a project I've been working on for the past 6 months. Wow!
Yesterday I went to a screening of Pixar's Up in the Disney Studio complex. The movie is AWESOME! In my opinion one of the best from Pixar! I loved the story, so much more to it then it seems at first sight, and the visuals are incredible. It's defenately worth seeing as it will surprise you! So as soon as you get the chance, go out and see it!
Also the new short in front of the movie, Partly Cloudy, is again Pixar style. Original, great visuals and lovely story. Pixar did it again and I am sure they will keep surprising us.

I saw Coraline today, I know, I am a tad slow with seeing this movie since it has been out already for quite a while. Anyways, I am a huge fan of this movie, it was a great experience with suchs a magical atmosphere, a great feature! I am in love with the soundtrack, it fits the movie so well. Anyone else saw this movie? You liked it?

UPDATE:
Since I have recently seen some amazing movies I had to update this journal. For people who haven't seen these films, go out and watch them, they are so worth your time if you enjoy a good movie!

- The Curious Case of Benjamin Button: suchs a cute and wonderful movie. Great cinematogrophy and a touching storyline. I really enjoyd this film and with it's 3 hours of length it wasn't even a minute too long. The full CG face in the first 1,5 hours of the movie is done amazingly well. It is very hard to spot that the full face is computer generated! A great picture with great acting.

- Slumdog Millionair: in my opinion the absolute winner of 2008. I have nothing but good to say about this picture. Almost every shot in this film is a piece of art, suchs an amazing color palette and beautiful compositions. The acting is unique and very touching and the storyline is just refreshing and simply amazing. And to complete this film the soundtrack is just fantastic! I haven't seen suchs an amazing film in a while. A simply must see.

Anyone else seen both these movies yet?

Yes my first term here at Gnomon came to an end, and since I didn't upload any new journals in suchs a long time I thought this was a good time to do so. I had a lot of fun at Gnomon so far and I learned a lot. Anyways I am going home now for 3 weeks for christmas and the new years so I will have some time to spend online.

I have a lot of projects coming up and I did a ton of pieces who are ready for upload, so expect some gallery updates soon! I am also doing my first real production work but I will tell you guys more about that soon! Exciting days for sure.

So thats it for now, I'm going to pack my stuff and get ready to go to the airport back home! Away from warm California and into the cold climate of West Europe.

Gnomon School of Visual Effects

But that is not the only good news I've got, because this september I will be going to study visual effects at Gnomon in L.A. Hollywood! It is like a dream coming true and I'm very very greatfull I get this oppertunity. It was in the middle of the night when I got the email saying: you've been accepted; I didn't sleep at all that night. So this year I will move to the other side of the world to work on my first big steps as a Visual Effects artist and I can't wait. Hollywood here I come!

I just got my copy from Bold Visions in the mail. The painting bible from the one and only Gary Tonge. Now I recommend this book to anyone who loves painting or sci-fi/fantasy art. It really is a GREAT book! I loved every single page of it and its a very complete guide how to make a good piece. He not only explains how and why he did certain things, he shows how he made some of his greatest pieces he ever done! The book is very interesting for both beginning and advanced artists and I learned really a lot of it. Please buy this book you won't regret it at all:

Finally! My new website is on air! I worked my ass off for the last 3 weeks to finish the desing and coding and uploading it! I now finished it completely and I'm very pleased with the result! It's also almost my one year art anniversary! Next week, it's been one year since I made my very first piece. It cracked me up when I saw it a few days ago. Really, it's beyond ugly.
